Heavy Equipment Field Service Technician

Position Title: Field Service Technician
Location: Mobile, AL
FLSA: Hourly

Travel Requirements: 100% travel within territory – overnight stays from time to time as well as overtime and weekends could be required.

Heavy Machines is looking for an experienced heavy equipment mechanic with hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and diesel experience. You will be servicing off road heavy diesel equipment such as excavators, loggers, wheel loaders, cable and hydraulic cranes and many more off-highway trucks/equipment.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Field Service Technicians work at various customer sites. 
  • They interact with customers to analyze problem situations pertaining to breakdowns of           equipment and make recommendations regarding repairs. 
  • They also perform scheduled maintenance on equipment for contracted customers according to maintenance policies and procedures.  
  • The Field Service Technician is expected to grow their territory by initiating service          opportunities with new customers.
  • They are responsible for troubleshooting, testing, performing start-ups, and inspecting low to high voltage electrical systems, and moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to perform basic and more complicated mathematics. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. 
  • Must be able to read and comprehend specifications, service and parts literature, technical
    bulletins and other related publications. 
  • Must be able to communicate thoughts and ideas in both verbal and written form. 
  • Ability to use computers and have command of appropriate software. 
  • Ability to learn to effectively operate any company software – with training. 
  • Positive customer service.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge including electrical and hydraulics.
  • Ability to read prints.
  • Must meet or exceed requirements defined by classification.

Education/Experience:

  • Either high school diploma or G.E.D. certification  
  • Must have at least 5 years’ experience with repairs of heavy industrial mobile equipment. 
  • Certificate in electronic diagnostics is preferred. 
  • Certificate in forklift and/or man lift operations
  • Basic welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience.  
  • Must possess excellent trouble shooting in the area of hydraulics and electrical repair as it applies to heavy off road equipment.  
  • Must be well versed in the repair and maintenance of diesel and gasoline powered equipment.

Typical Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds on a regular basis.  
  • Must be able to push/pull at least 75 pounds on a regular basis. 
  • Must be able to pass DOT physical.  
  • Climb into and out of equipment on a regular basis, must be able to use a ladder
  • Requires prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Must be able to work outside in various weather elements as well as being able to drive long distances (30+ miles).

Position

Heavy Machines is looking for an experienced Outside Sales Representative who will be responsible for generating new revenue, service existing HMI customers as well as identifying and winning new business. The Sales Representative will sell and/or rent all lines of equipment represented by the company.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generate revenue through rentals and sales of equipment through on site job analysis and face-to-face relationship building with those company owners and representatives in the industries we serve.
  • Penetrate customer at the strategic level to diversify customer base to include industrial, traditional and nontraditional accounts
  • Identifies business opportunities by visiting prospects and evaluation their position in the industry; researching and analyzing sales options
  • Prepares professional sales presentations and quotations for customers
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with customers by providing support, information, and guidance; researching and recommending new opportunities
  • Provide excellent customer service by responding to customer inquiries, questions, concerns regarding products, service, delivery, and billing
  • Reporting of field activity

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be people-oriented, aggressive, sales driven, and a team player
  • Must have some background in the equipment rental business
  • Must be exceptionally self-disciplined
  • Must possess excellent customer service
  • Maintain a professional business appearance at all times

  • Must have a proven track record of meeting/exceeding sales quotas
  • Cold-calling and jobsite calls are required
  • Proficient computer skills including MS Office Suite

Education/Experience:

  • Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of proven outside sales and rental success.
  • Must have a previous experience in industrial, construction or heavy equipment retail or rental sales
  • Experience in high dollar capital equipment sales will be considered.

Safety Training: All field employees receive work specific and OSHA required training on an annual basis. Currently this is performed in a two full day safety session held in each region. 

Safety Award Program: Employees are rewarded for participating in our safety program. They accumulate points for attending safety training and meetings, performing equipment and facility inspections and performing other safety tasks. Points are used to qualify for quarterly awards.
